What is Social Work Therapy/Counselling?
Social Workers play an important role in supporting children and young people to build their social and emotional wellbeing through evidence-based approaches.
Unlike traditional therapies, Social Work Therapy combines counselling with a holistic approach that considers the individual’s environment, relationships, and everyday systems to support meaningful, real-life change.
We provide therapy to both privately and NDIS funded young people.
Is Social Work funded under NDIS?
Social Work Therapy may be funded under the NDIS when it is non-clinical and focused on building functional capacity. This can include support to:
-
strengthen social skills
-
build positive relationships and community connections
-
increase independence in daily life and routines
How we support each individual
Social work assessments are used to develop a personalised plan that aligns with each individual’s goals. This helps ensure supports are tailored to their needs, including:
-
skill development
-
emotional regulation
-
social support
-
capacity building
Working together
Social Workers also help individuals navigate services, develop practical strategies, and set achievable goals that build confidence and independence.
We work closely with families, carers, and support networks to build understanding, strengthen support systems, and reduce barriers.
How therapy is delivered
Support is provided through:
-
1:1 therapy, focusing on building and practising practical skills
-
Collaboration with families and supports to help skills carry over into everyday life
There is also important work happening behind the scenes, including:
-
creating personalised resources and plans
-
developing programs
-
tracking progress
For NDIS participants, therapy reports are also provided as required.
